Andrean's Polus Big East bound

After enjoying a breakout fall season during the Prep Baseball Report’s Fall Prospect Program, Andrean High’s Thomas Polus emerged as a prospect to pay close attention to in Indiana. Now the left-handed pitcher and outfielder will be headed to play in the Big East after he committed to Georgetown University on Wednesday.

The 5-foot-9, 160-pound Polus has the ability to throw three pitches for strikes, including a top-level changeup. As a junior last spring, Polus posted a 5-0 record with a 1.25 ERA for the 30-2 59ers. At the plate, the left-handed hitting Polus batted .317 with 26 RBI while playing a stellar defensive outfield.

Polus is the fourth Division I commitment from Andrean so far, joining RHP-SS Adam Norton (Notre Dame), C Kevin Franchetti (Ball State) and MIF Ryan Dineen (Eastern Illinois).ÂRight-hander Mike Pokers is another top-level pitcher on the 59er staff who has yet to commit.

Prospect Watch: Penn's Mike Carroll

Mike Carroll from Penn HS is one of the hottest prospects in Indiana. Ranked No. 7 by Prep Baseball Report, the 5-foot-11, 190-pound outfielder batted .529 with 5 doubles, 5 triples, 30 RBI, and 40 stolen bases as a junior last spring.

The speedy two-sport athlete is also enjoying a standout football season as Penn improved to 9-3 after defeating LaPorte last Friday for a Sectional Championship. The left-handed hitting Carroll, who's one of the best unsigned prospects in the state, earned Northern Indiana Conference MVP last spring.
